Like many Revolution era flags, the Bennington features 13 stars and 13 stripes, symbolic of the 13 American colonies that were in a state of rebellion against Great Britain. The Bennington version is easily identified by a large '76' in the canton, recalling the year 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was signed. Another distinctive feature of the Bennington flag is the arrangement of the 13 stripes, with white being outermost (rather than red being outermost as in the current flag). Also, its stars have seven points each (instead of the current five) and the blue canton is taller than on other flags, spanning nine instead of seven of the thirteen stripes.
The Bennington flag is a popular version of the American flag, and many historic flag dealers carry it. The large '76' makes it easily identifiable as banner from the American Revolution, evoking Spirit of '76 nostalgia.

Great shirt. Shipping was wicked fast.
Runs small but the design is awesome.
I love these historical, but not-always-well-known, flag designs! This shirt always results in compliments and has been a great conversation piece too. Keep em coming, 1776 United! As for the fit, I feel like these 60/40 shirts feel a little bigger than the tri-blend shirts. JMO of course.
Just not on me. I mistakenly ordered a small instead of a large because I’m a knucklehead. When it arrived, I asked my wife if she wanted to try it on. She did and it looks great on her. She loves it. I wasn’t going to get the same shirt, so I ordered a Moultrie flag shirt...large. Love that as well.
The Bennington Flag
My husband loved his Bennington Flag shirt from 1776 United. The shirts are great quality and we will be ordering again soon.
