One of the first times a black American flag entered the American consciousness was during the American Civil War of 1861 to 1865.
During that period, particular Army units flew the black flag to symbolize the opposite of the white flag of surrender. It means they would neither give, nor accept, quarter.
In other words, “no quarter will be given” means enemy combatants would rather be killed than taken prisoner.
The phrase “give no quarter” has origins as far back as the 17th century.

We created 1776 United to evoke a sense of patriotism found in our forefathers. Most have forgotten to ask themselves not what their country can do for them, but what they can do for their country.
Our dream is to inspire a new wave of patriotism that might lead to the next Greatest Generation. We aim for the clothing we create to embody the many chapters of American history. Each shirt is a cotton reminder of who we are, where we live, and where we're going.
I initially ordered large as that's what I generally wear in athletic fit shirts. I found the sleeves were too small. I replaced the L with XL and the sleeves are better, but the body of the shirt is too big. I guess I'm in between sizes with this brand. Nothing against the shirt, it just doesn't fit me well.
I was so happy to receive my order and also my Mystery Tee-Shirt. It was actually one I wanted but forgot to add it to my shopping cart. Good quality shirts and the hats are great also.
